Ductwork Cleaning

What is Ductwork?

Almost always the ductwork is hidden from view and its purpose is to ventilate and condition, a number of different types of premises such as hospitals, offices, kitchens, cinemas, museums and theatres. The accumulation of debris is not always apparent. However, if left, this debris can then propagate unwanted allergens or even, provide a breeding/feeding ground for insects and vermin. This can put your staff at risk and pose a health risk to any visitors and customers to your business. As well as seriously affect workers productivity and production.

How is ductwork cleaning carried out?

Access must first be gained to the system, for the cleaning of the ventilation systems to begin. Current ductwork specifications, DW 144, call for access doors at pre-determined locations and distances. However it is likely that additional doors will still be required in order for the ductwork to be cleaned to the standards of B&ES TR/19, HTM 03-01 & HVCA TM26.

A variety of techniques can be used that dislodge debris from internal surfaces of the ductwork prior to vacuum removal. Most commonly used in ductwork cleaning of up to 800mm diameter, is the rotary brush system, covering long distances and around bends. The need for the number of access doors is then minimised and the vacuum removal system featuring a filtration system, prevents any dust collecting and re-circulating back into the working area.
